Louisiana Purchase
Everyone knows how I feel about France, they are not a stable government. I think that having them as our neighbors would not allow safe trade and exploration. I know that where my morals are set, I would not be able to see myself buying the Louisiana property because of the general fundamental properties of it are not named in the Constitution, alas, I have found that having land under the name of France being so near makes me nervous. Right now, they are under control of more than 800,000 square miles! I have been given a price of fifteen million dollars for the whole of it. I think that if I do not act now and buy this land, France shall think about an attack. I shall get back to you on how I deal with this.

Hello, Mr. Jefferson, I am Abraham Lincoln, the 16th president of the United States. I do agree that you should buy that land. It would not be good for America if France was bordering us and they attacked. I consider it a danger to this country. Because so many people want this territory, there might be many disputes over land. Also, Napoleonic France is an aggressive power and we do not' want them to attack us. Settlers need to use the Mississippi river for trade and commerce.
